Carly McDonell is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with ACCT and a registered service provider with the Crime Victim Assistance Program. She is also obtaining a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and has completed trainings in racial trauma, trauma informed interventions, clinical suicidology, and telepsychology best practices. Carly's clinical training has included work with Child and Youth Mental Health, Providence Health Care, WorkBC, and the Chilliwack Youth Health Centre. She has also provided crisis intervention services with organizations such as the Vancouver Police Department and Kids Help Phone.
A large component of Carly's orientation to practice is the view of self as a continuous process shaped by experiences throughout the lifespan. Her aim in counselling is to create a safe and non-judgmental space for clients where they feel understood and respected, and collaboratively work towards establishing goals for treatment.
Carly works from a trauma-informed and attachment approach, incorporating CBT and DBT interventions to support clients through life changes, relationship conflict, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. As appropriate, she acknowledges clients' intersecting identities and supports them in resolving associated distress.
